Why to Book a Summer Photo Session

Fall is notoriously the busiest time for family and senior photos, and for good reason. A Michigan fall is beautiful. The leaves are changing. The freshness of the school year feels like an ideal time to document your growing family. We’re only just months away from needing Christmas cards. And fall in Michigan means winter is coming next.

But with the popularity of fall sessions, sometimes the beauty and simplicity of summer sessions is lost. Here are five reasons why a summer photo session might be a better fit for your family:

1. Flexible schedules. Fall is FULL. Once school starts back up, weekends tend to get booked up quickly. In summer, you can more easily book a weekday session or find a weekend that isn’t so crazy full. A summer evening when you don’t have anything else going on will allow us to slow down, enjoy the session, and not be so rushed to get to the next activity or beat the sun from going down.

2. Nicer weather. Summer gets a bad rap for the heat, but since we’ll shoot in the morning or evening, we’ll avoid the hottest parts of the day. There’s no need to worry about the unexpected but inevitable October frost. Bonus, you can dress in your favorite sundress, sandals, and shorts… without needing a winter coat!

3. Nature is brimming with life. If you love green trees and gardens full of flowers (or, my personal favorite, fields of wildflowers!), there is no better season in Michigan than summer. If your wardrobe and home decor style leans towards bright, happy colors, you’ll fit in more comfortably with a summer backdrop.

4. The golden summer sun. Sunshine is beautiful no matter what time of year, but nothing beats the golden August sun in the hour before sunset.

5. A chance to get a head start on Christmas cards and gifts. If you’re anything like me, you tend to procrastinate, and Christmas cards turn into New Year’s cards. 2020 is your year to plan ahead! When you have a summer session, you will have your photos back in plenty of time, and you can actually –get this– enjoy December.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should my child wear?

Whatever is comfortable, but please avoid graphics or neon clothing. Because the backdrop is gray, I recommend staying away from gray as well. All individual shots of toddlers and preschoolers will be taken bust/shoulders up. Babies and sibling photos may include more of their bottom half.

How will I get my photos?

Families who have pre-registered have been emailed a secure password-protected online Shootproof gallery. Your director will also let you know when the gallery is ready to view. You’ll have your choice of 3-5 images, edited in classic color and black and white. Some children are more expressive and more comfortable in front of the camera and may have more photos in their gallery. The entire school will be in the same password protected gallery, divided by class and student. Sibling photos can be found in the older child's gallery. If you would prefer a private gallery, please contact the photographer.

Your prints can be easily ordered from the site, and digitals can be purchased and downloaded at your convenience. YOU get to choose which images you print and display and gift. You can even opt to send the link to family members, and they can order the size prints they prefer. All physical prints and products will be delivered to school within two weeks of the ordering deadline, or shipped to your home for an additional cost.

How do I receive a class composite?

Each print and digital order will receive a free class composite photo. These will be delivered to school at a later date this fall/winter.

When checking out, does "I'll pickup" mean it will be delivered to school?

That's exactly right! If you prefer your prints to be shipped to your home or a family member's home within the U.S., click "ship to me."

Will Abi Schmit Photography use my child's image online or print marketing?

I may contact you for permission to use your child's image on social media and in my marketing, but I will never share without your permission, and I never share a child's name or identifying information. Your safety is my priority!

My child was absent. When is Make-Up Day?

Abi will return to school on the morning of Tuesday, October 24. Registration is required for students who were previously photographed but would like retakes.

Can you retouch my child's photo?

All photos have been edited and color corrected, but if you need special retouching (for example, a scratch or snotty nose), you can add to cart in the "Retouch" menu. Digital images, if purchased, will be delivered electronically within 5 days.

How can I use my digital image?

If you purchase a digital image or full gallery, you will receive a Print Release and be able to print wherever you prefer to receive your prints from. You are free to use in Christmas cards, or share on social media. Giving photo credit to Abi Schmit Photography online is always appreciated.

I have more questions. How do I contact you?

Feel free to contact me at abischmit.photo@ gmail (dot) com if you have any further questions. Please do not contact me through my website contact form on the homepage unless you have interest in booking a session. Thank you!

Thank you for supporting a local small business, and for the privilege and honor of photographing your child and serving your school this year.
